The legend of the Kenyan island of Envaitenet is one of those cases which utterly intrigues, but which is frustratingly lacking in detail. The small island sits on Rudolf Lake (named after a crown prince of Austria), and in the language of a local tribe Envaitenet means “No-Return”. It has long been considered to be a cursed place.  A ccording to local residents, the island "absorbs" people and because of this, for many years, no one wants to live on this mysterious island or even visit it for the fear of a possibility of repeating the fate of those who disappeared forever for unknown reasons in its vicinity. Since my high school days, I developed this great fantasy of travelling to Arizona, United States just to experience the awesome view of river Colorado's Grand Canyon. My geography teacher( one very tall man and of course one of my favorite pedagogues) explained the beauty of this magnificent work of nature and this made my plane take off. Situated at the base of the magnificent Kerio valley sits the home-away-from-home, the Lelin Overland Campsite. The road meanders of Iten(the haven of the famous athletes) as well as observing the overlooking rocky creeks of the mighty escarpments not only offer a great deal of sun but also awe in the beautiful work of the nature. Lelin is a place packed with all a man would need to enjoy a weekend getaway to his full satisfaction. Talk of a campsite where you wake up and go you can wake up and do some Duff Mpararo (Swimming in a river) to teh max. Here you jump down a cliff and you enjoy the cooling effect of the water below. Dont be deceived, the water down there may seem warm but like you remember Geography (The higher you go....) well, here you experience the opposite of that. Damn, isnt the experience amazing? When growing up I loved spending time with my great grandma, listening intently to her amazing and chilling evening stories. There was never a better feeling than the one I got when she mumbled "a long time ago....." That's when I would forget everything else I could have been doing and take an old gunia (gunny bag), gather up with my cousins and sit at her feet( how awesome those moments were) #smiling . The moments were characterized by utter silence and absolute attention. Memories of how we would get scared especially when she told stories of the ogres, the hyena and the wolves( laughing ) still linger in my mind to date.  Though most of her stories were fictional, there were some which felt and sounded real. One such story is the tale of Simbi Nyaima. Throughout my childhood years and the teenage age, The desire to visit this amazing place grew day by day and so when I was 20, I decided to take a leap and travel, just to behold the wonders this destination exudes....

Situated at the heart of the land of milk and honey, not to mention the tall, straight bamboo trees, the butterfly of Africa, my beautiful Kenya,  is the magnificent county, the Machakos county. Machakos means "the land of endless mysteries" and true to the connotation, this land is full of wonders and conundrums.  Today we will explore the mystical hill that defies gravity, the  Kyamwilu hill. The hill is situated along the Machakos-Kangundo road, just a few kilometers past Machakos town. It offers a perfect spot for the motorist who wish to save some few milliliters of the expensive fuel (considering the current status of the economy) as for about 100 meters uphill, one can go on  free gear. Right from branching off from Nairobi-Kisumu highway one cannot avoid being mesmerized by the beautiful and amazing sceneries along the Kakamega -Malava road. Beautiful land? NO! Beautiful would be an understatement when it comes to describing this land. It is just heart-melting. Lovely!  One of the spectacular sceneries in this land is the  The Crying  Stone of Ilesi . For anyone at the foot of this phenomenon, the most striking feature is that it resembles a gowned figure, perpetually in tears flowing from 'head to toe' — an image spiced-up by myth and folkfore. To any visitor, the stone is just another tourist attraction site, but for tourism enthusiasts, the story behind this amazing feature, as well as the lives of  Isukha poeple who live at its base, is not just beautiful but exciting to listen to.  Stay in touch for more on this wonder-ful land.........
